The belief that you should allow your child to have the least amount of disabilities so that they have the most options. Based off Feinberg’s Right to an Open Future

Argument

P1: children have right to open future (autonomy is not affected)
P2: giving birth to a disabled child prevents them from having open future
C: it is wrong to have disabled child

Intuition

  • In Amish cultures, children can’t use technology, cant go to university, this limits their potential, this is immoral, this is what giving birth to a disabled person does, it limits their potential

Responses

  • Having a deaf child doesn’t decrease that child’s autonomy
